LEAVE A GIFT IN YOUR WILL
Your legacy and values
What are you passionate about?
We all have causes we care about, from supporting youth to advancing education, addressing food insecurity, and uplifting those in need. Imagine what your legacy can do to make an ongoing difference for a cause close to your heart.
Leaving a gift in your will can make a lasting impact
A bequest is a gift from your estate that can give as much as you want to a cause that’s important to you—and it’s flexible, you can always change your mind. Leaving a gift in your will to the First West Foundation is a way to support your chosen cause year after year. And, because the Foundation receives administrative funding from First West Credit Union, more of your gift goes directly to the community.
You have several ways to give:
- Designate a specific dollar amount to an existing First West Foundation endowment
- Give via Securities
- Make a gift of property
- Consider a residual gift (a percentage of the remainder of your estate after you have taken care of loved ones)
- Set up your own family endowment—a permanent fund that supports your chosen CRA-registered charity.
Getting Started
We encourage you to ask your lawyer to add a codicil to your existing will; it’s a relatively easy way to plan your future gift. Outline your intention and use our legal name and Canadian charitable registration number:
Suggested wording:

- I give to the First West Foundation, charitable number BN 890734940 RR 0001, ____ percent of the residue of my estate.
