We're dedicated to strengthening our communities through impactful grant-making programs that are aligned to six Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

As a collaborative partner, we align with charities and provide Impact Grants to those whose goals are dedicated to one or more of these six SDGs. Together, we increase our efforts and presence in ways that make a meaningful impact. It's with this intention that we are helping address some of the most complex and challenging social issues affecting our communities. If your organization's primary mission is aligned with one of the following SDGs and impact focus areas, you may be eligible for an Impact Grant from us.

No Poverty

We partner with organizations seeking to increase access to basic resources, and who create opportunities that improve the quality of life for our neighbours. By working together, we can create communities where every individual has the chance to thrive.

Zero Hunger

We work to reduce food insecurity in communities across our regions, and partner with organizations who are delivering services, programs or educational resources that help alleviate food insecurity for their clients.

Impact Grants are not suitable for food purchase or food bank programs, which are needs we currently support through our community-based programs, Feed the Valley and The Full Cupboard—led by our partners Envision Financial, Island Savings, Enderby & District Financial and Valley First, divisions of First West Credit Union.

Good Heath and Well-Being

The health and wellbeing of people in our communities is crucial to our purpose. We are focused on supporting organizations who are delivering mental health programs and services.

We do not provide financial grants for camps, sport teams or sporting programs, events or activities.

Quality Education

From being ready for school to increasing graduation rates or advancing adult literacy, we support programs and organizations who are furthering education in all its forms.

Reduced Inequalities

Our SOAR grants support equity-deserving organizations committed to serving racialized groups, including and not limited to people who identify as Black, Brown, Indigenous and/or as a person of colour. Our SOAR Committee reviews and selects annual recipients alongside members of the Employee Network Groups at First West Credit Union.

SOAR grants originate from the Foundation’s four regional community endowments and are administered under the same principles as our annual grant programs.

Partnerships for the Goals

To make an impact, we focus on collaboration and forming trusted relationships. We partner with the New School of Fundraising to co-create learning opportunities and bursary programs to support enhanced education and professional development for people in the sector.
