Enderby Receives $24,395 in Community Grants

Created as a legacy gift in 2013, Enderby & District Financial established a charitable endowment with the First West Foundation to generate ongoing funding in support of the community of Enderby and area F of the North Okangan Regional District.

We’re very excited to announce the distributions from the Enderby & District Financial Community Endowment totalling $24,395 this year. Below is an overview of the organizations and projects receiving 2016 grants.

Small Group Literacy Support

Additional literacy support for local school children (grades 1-4) reading significantly below their grade level and not already receiving additional support at school.  Four times a week (40 minute sessions) for 10 weeks.

Outreach Worker

Hiring a social worker to run the Family Support Program to provide direct support to families in our community, offering intense parenting support, referrals, crisis intervention, short-term counseling and life skills.

Board of Education of School District 83 – A.L. Fortune Secondary School

Young Men & Women’s Youth Programming

After school programming (youth aged 13-17).  Participation open to the entire school but encouragement is made to high risk youth.

Health & Nutrition Program

Free snacks and meals for a vulnerable segment of the population: children aged 5-10 years during the After School Kid’s Program.

Sustainable Food Bank

Although request was specifically to fund a coordinator, with proposed grant amount being significantly less we will advise that they can use the funds as they deem necessary to become a fully sustainable food bank in Enderby.
